چکیده

In order to overcome the effects of degradation of the optical signal caused by transmission impairments, regenerators are placed at some intermediate nodes to regenerate the signal to its original level. Regeneration requires the signal to be dropped locally, regenerated and retransmitted back into the network. This process involves provisioning for required number of transceiver pairs at this node to support the additional traffic that is added/dropped locally in addition to the local traffic, which originates or terminates at this node. A common approach is to reserve a specific number of transceiver pairs for regeneration traffic and local add-drop traffic. This approach however leads to under-utilization of the common resource(transceiver pairs). We propose a sharable architecture in which the connections requiring regeneration and local add-drop traffic share a common pool of transceiver pairs. We also show via simulation and mathematical analysis that the sharable architecture achieves a lower blocking probability for add-drop connections without addition of more transceivers. This causes a reduction in the cost of the cross-connect and hence provides savings for the network provider.

Signal Optimization During Radio Links Between a Transmitter and a Receiver Located in Adjacent Material Media with Differing Optical Densities (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Signal optimization is affected during radio links between a transmitter and a receiver located in adjacent material media with differing optical densities. The optimization is carried out via the automated control theory method. The radio signal obtained after the optimization is coordinated with the two media's electrical characteristics simultaneously; and this enables low power and small an...

On The Secrecy of the Cognitive Interference Channel with Channel State

In this paper the secrecy problem in the cognitive state-dependent interference channel is considered. In this scenario we have a primary and a cognitive transmitter-receiver pairs. The cognitive transmitter has the message of the primary sender as side information. In addition, the state of the channel is known at the cognitive encoder. Hence, the cognitive encoder uses this side information t...

A Contention-Free Packet Scheduling Scheme for Provision of Quality-of- Service in Tbit/sec WDM Networks

Guaranteed Quality-of-Service (QoS) is a predominant requirement from modern high-performance switches and routers. Such devices are expected to support a large number of ports at high line rates carrying traffic with diverse statistical properties. In this paper a scheduling scheme for high-performance WDM packet-switch networks is presented. The proposed architecture is contention-free, scala...

Effective switching scheduling algorithm using concatenated data block to reduce guard-time for opt-electronic packet switch

Absfracf-A new scheduling algorithm that concatenates data blocks to increase switching throughput is proposed. The algorithm controls the degree of concatenation and reduces the number of switching instances to improve switch utilization. The switch architecture uses a virtual output queue switching architecture where the core switch fabric is an optical matrix switch. The optical matrix switc...
